Email Setup in Mac Mail 7

This article will show you how to set up an account for your iiNet email address in Mac Mail 7. This version of Mail is typically used with OSX Mavericks.

  1. If you have another email account, send a test email to the email address you're setting up. Alternatively, ask a friend or family member to send you an email.

  2. Open Mail with the icon in the dock at the bottom of the screen, or by searching for “Mail” in the Spotlight search bar in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

  3. Click Mail in the top menu bar, and then select Preferences.

  4. Click the Accounts tab.

  5. Click the plus (+) symbol in the bottom left-hand corner of the pop-up window.

  6. Select Add Other Mail Account and then click Continue.

  7. Enter the following details before clicking Create:

Full name: Your name as you’d like it to appear on the emails that you send.
Email address: Your iiNet email address
Password: Your iiNet email address password

  8. Mail will attempt to automatically discover the settings for your email address. If it says "Account must be configured manually", click Create again to continue.

  9. If asked to manually configure your email account, enter the following for the Incoming Server before clicking Next. If your email address doesn't end in "@iinet.net.au", please see iiNet Group Email Settings.

Account Type: IMAP (recommended) or POP
    Mail Server: mail.iinet.net.au
User Name: Your iiNet email address
Password: Your iiNet email address password

  10. If Mail says "Additionai account information required", enter the following for the Incoming server before clicking Next:

    Path Prefix: Leave blank
Port: 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP)
    Use SSL: Tick
    Authentication: Password

Alternatively, use the no-SSL encryption settings (port 143 (IMAP) or 110 (POP), no SSL, Authentication Password) in the image below.

Port 143 (IMAP) or 110 (POP), do not tick SSL, Authentication password.

  11. Enter the following for the Outgoing Server before clicking Create:

    Mail Server: mail.iinet.net.au
    User Name: Leave blank
    Password: Leave blank

  12. If Mail says "Additional account information required", enter the following for the Outgoing Server before clicking Create:

    Port: 465
    Use SSL: Tick
    Authentication: Password

Alternatively, use the no-SSL encryption settings (port 25, no SSL, Authentication None) in the image below.

Port 25, do not tick SSL, Authentication none.

  13. Optional: In the Mail Preferences window, select your account and then click the Advanced tab. Ensure that Remove copy from server after retrieving a message is unticked; this allows copies of your emails to be stored on the iiNet server, so they can be retrieved again if they are lost from your computer.

  14. Close the Mail Preferences window to finish. If your test email arrives in your inbox, you know your email account is up and running!
