Setting up Dialup on Mac OSX

This article will show you how to set up a dialup connection on Mac OSX.

Please note: Newer Mac computers do not come with built-in dialup modems. You may need to have one installed by a computer technician, or a USB plugin dialup modem may be available for purchase at your local computer store.

Setting up Dialup in Mac OSX

  1. To start, click the Network icon in the upper right-hand corner of the windows and select Open Network Preferences

  2. In the left-hand column of the Network Preferences window, select External Modem (for USB plugin dialup modems) or Internal Modem (for built-in dialup modems).

  3. Enter the following details, and make sure "Show modem status in the menu bar" is ticked:

    Configuration: Default
    Telephone number: 0198333955
Account name: Your dialup username (e.g. john.citizen@iinet.net.au)
    Password:  Your dialup password

  4. Click Apply to finish. To start your dialup connection, click the phone icon in the upper right-hand corner of your screen and then select Connect External Modem.
