Updating your Username and Password in iiNet Modem Settings

This article will show you how to update the username and/or password in the settings for any modem purchased from the iiNet Group, including iiNet, Westnet, former Adam Internet and former TransACT customers. One exception is the Arris CM820 Cable modem, which does not have a modem settings interface.

If your modem was purchased elsewhere, please check the manufacturer's website for a setup guide or support information.

You may need to update the broadband username/password in your modem settings for the following reasons:

  • You have changed your broadband password, particularly if you are an off-net ADSL1 customer.
  • You have changed your broadband username (this may occur during relocations).
  • An irregular issue, such as a power surge during a storm, has caused a modem to lose the username and password that was saved.

You will NOT need to update the broadband username/password if:

  • You have an iiNet NBN™ Fibre (FTTP/FTTB/FTTN) service or any other fibre service which uses an IPoE WAN type - this kind of connection doesn't need your broadband username/password in the modem settings to get online.
  • You have iiNet Cable or iiNet NBN™ HFC - these services come with modem routers that auto-configure with your required settings.
  • You have on-net iiNet ADSL2+ or Naked DSL. In late 2013, we introduced "line authentication" for the majority of our on-net connections, which means that your modem gets 'permission' to get online according to the specific port your phone/DSL line is connected to at the exchange, not by using the username and password in the modem settings. Most customers with ADSL2+ or Naked DSL won't need to update their modem settings if their password changes.
