Hosted Lync Adding a Federated Account

This article will show you how to Federate another Lync service (hosted or on-premise) with iiNet Hosted Lync. This allows you to use Lync to communicate with other Lync users in external companies or departments.

Federating with Hosted Lync

  1. First, you'll need to check that Federation is enabled. Log in to the Hosting Control Panel with your username and password.

  2. Select the Lync tab and then click Options.

    Options Tab

  3. Make sure that External Communications is set to ON.

    Federation is On

  4. You should always inform the party you're trying to federate with that by following the federation commands below they are federating with all iiNet Hosted Lync customers, and not just your domain name.

  5. This Microsoft article will be helpful for both you and the party you're federating with, but please note that it mentions running a sample command. The party you're federating with will need to use the parameters below instead:

New-CsHostingProvider -Identity LyncServices -ProxyFqdn "access.lyncservices.net" -VerificationLevel UseSourceVerification -Enabled $True -EnabledSharedAddressSpace $False -HostsOCSUsers $False -IsLocal $False
New-CsHostingProvider -Identity iiNetHosting -ProxyFqdn "access.lync.iinet.net.au" -VerificationLevel UseSourceVerification -Enabled $True -EnabledSharedAddressSpace $False -HostsOCSUsers $False -IsLocal $False
New-CsHostingProvider -Identity WestnetHosting -ProxyFqdn "access.lync.westnet.com.au" -VerificationLevel UseSourceVerification -Enabled $True -EnabledSharedAddressSpace $False -HostsOCSUsers $False -IsLocal $False

  6. Once the sample command above has been run, please allow up to 15 minutes for the federation to complete.

  7. You should now be able to find external Lync users from the federated party by entering their full username (including any "@domain.com.au") in the search bar of your Lync client, such as the example below.

Please note: Your Lync photo (if you have one) will not be shown to federated contacts.

    Full SIP Name
