Hosted Lync Desktop Client Audio Settings

This article will show you how to access the Audio Settings for Lync 2013 on PC or Mac OSX.

Select one of the links below to jump to a query:

  1. In the Lync desktop client, click the gear icon (not the down arrow next to it).

  2. Select Audio Device from the left-hand list. You'll see the following options on the right:
  • Select the device you want to use
  • Customise speaker, microphone and ringer volume
  • Check Call Quality

  1. Please note: If you've plugged in a USB headset, the ability to manually select devices will be disabled. Global Windows settings usually make USB plugin devices the default. If you wish to use a different device, please unplug the USB headset.

  2. The Check Call Quality button can help you make sure your devices are working and have appropriate volumes set. It lets you hear a brief message and then record a short piece of audio that is then played back to you so you can hear how you sound.

  3. Once you're happy, click OK to apply your changes.

  1. In the Lync desktop client, click Lync in the top menu bar and then select Preferences.

  2. Select the Audio tab to see the following options:
  • Select the device you want to use
  • Customise speaker, microphone and ringer volume

  1. Please note: If you've plugged in a USB headset, the ability to manually select devices will be disabled. Global Mac settings usually make USB plugin devices the default. If you wish to use a different device, please unplug the USB headset.

  2. Unfortunately, there isn't a 'Check Call Quality' option for the Mac version of Lync. We recommend that you make a test call to a work colleague to test your settings manually.
