Setup guides

You may need these settings in this article when setting up your email on your mobile/tablet devices or desktop email software.

iiNet Group email servers

Things to remember:

  • For username/email address, you should always use your full email address (including the "@domain.net.au" part).
  • If your email address is an extra mailbox (i.e. it is not also the username for your internet connection) please be sure to use the password set specifically for that mailbox.

Mailbox Size Limit

Currently quota for your iiNet Group email address is not enforced. When it is, your limit will be 1GB.

POP vs. IMAP settings

Some email software requires you to choose between POP/POP3 and IMAP protocol settings. As a rule of thumb, you should always choose IMAP if you're planning to set up your email address on multiple devices (e.g. home computer, iPad and a smartphone). This ensures that all of your devices will get a copy of every email you receive.

A computer or device using POP protocol for an email account will often download emails from the mail server and then not leave a copy for other emails to download. For example, this means that once an email is downloaded to your desktop computer, you can't download another copy on your smartphone.

Some email clients may have an additional setting to make POP accounts leave a copy of emails on the mail server, but this is not always the case.

If you only use a single computer, choosing POP should be fine. You could still access your email from another device at any time by logging in to iiNet Webmail.

Port settings

If your email address isn't provided by the iiNet Group, please contact your email provider if these settings don't work for you.

SSL Encrypted ports (recommended)

Port type Port number to use Enable SSL? Requires Authentication?
Incoming (POP) 995 Yes Yes, username and password
Incoming (IMAP) 993 Yes Yes, username and password
Outgoing (SMTP) 465 Yes Yes, username and password
Outgoing (SMTP roaming server)* 587 Yes Yes, username and password

*The option of a roaming outgoing server may not available for all email providers.

Unencrypted ports

These settings don't use SSL encryption, but they can be useful during email troubleshooting.

Port type Port number to use Enable SSL? Requires Authentication?
Incoming (POP) 110 No Yes, username and password
Incoming (IMAP) 143 No Yes, username and password
Outgoing (SMTP) 25 No No
Outgoing (SMTP roaming server)* 587 No Yes, username and password

*The option of a roaming outgoing server may not available for all email providers.

Email servers for other providers

If you have an iiNet Group mailbox, but your internet connection is with a non-iiNet Group provider, you’ll need to set the incoming mail server as listed above in order to receive email. To send emails, you’ll need to either:

A) Recommended: Set your iiNet Group outgoing mail server (listed above) with port 587 and ensure that outgoing authentication is enabled, using the username and password for your iiNet Group email account; or

B) Set your internet service provider's outgoing mail server (listed below), with port 25 and outgoing authentication disabled (unless noted).
