Email Setup in Android OS

This article will show you how to set up an iiNet Group email address on the Android OS mail app.

IMPORTANT: The look and features of Android OS can vary greatly depending on which device you have. If these instructions don't work for you, please refer to the manufacturer's website or search online for support information on the mail app. While setting up, you'll need the relevant email settings.

  1. If you have another email account, send a test email to the email address you're setting up. Alternatively, ask a friend or family member to send you an email.

  2. On the home screen, tap the Email app icon. If you do not see this app, you may need to open the full Apps list first.

  3. Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines, typically at the top right of the screen) and then select Manage Accounts.

  4. Tap the + icon at the top of the screen.

  5. Select Others.

  6. Enter your full email address and then tap Manual Setup.

  7. Select Personal (IMAP).

  8. Where it says Sign in, enter the password for your email address and then tap Next.

  9. Enter the following incoming server settings and then tap Next:

Username: Your full email address e.g. example@iinet.net.au
    Authentication: Your email address password
Server: mail.iinet.net.au (if your email address doesn't end with "@iinet.net.eu" please see iiNet Group Email Settings for the correct server)
    Port: 995*
Security Type: SSL (Accept all certificates)*

*Alternatively, use port 110 and set security type to None.

  10. Your device may take a moment to validate the entered settings. Afterwards, enter the following outgoing server settings and then tap Next:

SMTP Server: mail.iinet.net.au (if your email address doesn't end with "@iinet.net.eu" please see iiNet Group Email Settings for the correct server)
    Port: 587*
Security Type: SSL (Accept all certificates)
    Require signin: Ticked*
Username: Your full email address e.g. example@iinet.net.au
    Authentication: Your email address password

*These are the recommended settings for mobile devices. If you use a tablet that only gets online using an iiNet Group broadband connection, you could use port 465 (Security type = SSL) or port 25 (Security type = None) with no signin required.

  11. Select your desired Sync frequency (how often the app will check for new mail) and your notifications preferences, then tap Next.

  12. If you want to, you can set a name for the account which will label it according in the Mail app. Enter your name as you want it to appear on outgoing mail and then tap Next.

  13. You should now be able to access your iiNet email through the Mail app. Exit the menus and check your inbox. If your test email arrives in your inbox, you know your email account is up and running!
